Over Stratton Folk Dance Club History.

The Club is now over sixty years old and still dancing.

South Petherton Combined Arts Society was formed in 1947. The society brought together drama, art, song and dance. During the late 1970s the dance club as we now know it came into being meeting at Hayes End Hall, South Petherton. Not only social dance but Playford, Morris, Irish and Mummers Plays were mentioned in the minutes from the 1982 AGM. Hayes End Hall has now gone, so we continue dancing in the nearby Over Stratton Village Hall.

Today the club is different from those early years; it is run and organised by a committee of dancers providing a full programme during the year, from September to early July. We share a common enjoyment of dancing and live music that helps to keep us fit. We dance for fun rather than perfection.
